Shadow mission

A shadow mission is something that distracts from your main mission in life. A shadow mission has several characteristics:

1. They are easier to achieve.
2. They are less scary and require less courage to pursue.
3. They also sound good maybe even more sensible based on societal norms.
4. They make you feel good almost immediately. None of that delayed gratfication stuff thank you.

The key thing though is that it is not God's best for you and not THE mission for you. Everyone has a mission in life. May we find it and fulfil it.

Samson had a defined mission as a leader and a judge in Israel. He was distracted by the shadow mission of women and partying. So he lost out.

Rather than turn from our main mission and focus on the shadow mission. We should rather ask for the empowerment of the Holy Spirit and boldness to continue and succeed in our God-given mission.

In Acts 4:29-31, the disciples were being threatened in a way that would have made it easy for them to pursue a shadow mission of toning down their preaching and evangelization for our Lord Jesus Christ. Rather than giving in to this, they ask God for an increase measure of the Holy Spirit to weather the challenges of their main mission and continue in it. And God responded to this prayer in a powerful way.

Friend, let us not give up in what God has called us to do. No matter how tough it is, we have an equal and greater resource through the Holy Spirit. Ask for more of Him and He will empower you to overcome the temptations of the shadow mission and press into God's best and greatest for you.

You are blessed.
